Why Peptide Storage Temperature Matters (Lyophilized vs Reconstituted)

Lyophilized (dry) powder is the most stable form and is kept refrigerated short-term or frozen (−20 °C or below) long-term; once reconstituted into solution, a peptide is far less stable and must stay refrigerated and be used promptly. Why peptides need cold storage

Peptides degrade through several routes — hydrolysis, oxidation, and aggregation — and all of them speed up with heat, moisture, and light exposure. Cold, dry, dark storage slows that chemistry down, preserving the purity and identity the Certificate of Analysis documented.

Lyophilized powder: the stable form

Freeze-dried peptide has had its water removed, which dramatically improves stability. Sealed lyophilized powder is typically fine refrigerated (2–8 °C) for shorter periods and is held at −20 °C or colder for long-term storage. Keep it sealed until use to avoid moisture uptake.

Reconstituted solution: handle with care

Once dissolved (see our reconstitution guide), the peptide is in water and far more vulnerable. Reconstituted solutions are kept refrigerated, protected from light, and used within the window on the lot documentation. Repeated freeze–thaw cycles of solutions are generally avoided because they promote degradation.
